Salem Finally Opens Overnight Warming Center

The City of Salem has finally decided to allow 1 warming shelter to open. It is unclear if the shelter will provide cots or bunks to sleep. It will be located at the First Presbyterian Church, 770 Chemeketa St. 


Salem's Drinking Water Remains Safe Following Gas Spill in North Santiam River

The City of Salem says it switched to backup groundwater and reservoirs for drinking water following the large gasoline spill into the North Santiam River Friday night. Water in Salem remains safe to drink thanks to these backup systems.

Fatal Tanker Crash Closes Hwy 22 Indefinitely

A Bend man lost his life late Friday night when the gasoline tanker he was driving lost traction on the icy road and rolled over coming to a stop blocking the highway said Oregon State Police. OSP says that there were additional collisions in the area that resulted in no injuries.

Mother and Child Held Hostage at Knife Point in Their Home

Marion County Sheriff’s Office says that a Salem woman and her minor child were held at knife point in their home over night. Deputies say they believe that Christopher Hahn-Collins, age 25, of Salem broke into a Southeast Salem late Friday afternoon and waited.

Infant Death Being Investigated as Homicide in McMinnville

 The McMinnville Police told Salem News Journal that they and fire personnel were called to a apartment that is attached to a residence at 1125 NE Irvine st. on a report female infant was not breathing. Officials said that the infant sustained abusive head trauma that led to her death.


Inmate Walks Away From Coffee Creek Correctional Facility

The Oregon Department of Corrections says a minimum-custody inmate walked away Monday, at 6:50 a.m. from Coffee Creek Correctional Facility in Wilsonville. Inmate Lorrie Marie Hocker, 42, is a white female, 5 ft. 3 in. weighing 145 lbs, said officials.


Car Thief Served Trip to Jail in McDonalds Drive Through (Video)

An alert Salem Police officer spotted a stolen car in a McDonald's drive through, Hawthorne Av and Market St early Thursday morning and directed other officers into position while the unsuspecting suspect waited in line. When the last car in front of this guy cleared it was his turn. 


Search for Missing 7 Year Old Boy in Salem

FOUND: The missing boy has been found at a freinds home a few blocks from his home. After seeing some social media post the freinds parents called family and police. The boy is now safe at home. During the search for this boy his picture was shared on facebook thousands of times.


House Fire Sends One Woman to Local Hospital (Video)

A house fire which started in a converted garage, and spread to the main home sent one woman to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. The first arriving unit reported fire and smoke from the garage and one apparent victim down in the yard.


Extra Patrols For The Holiday Week

The Marion County Sheriff's Office says that it is adding extra DUII patrols to our roadways over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend. During the Thanksgiving holiday weekend in 2015 there were 301 passenger vehicle occupants killed in traffic crashes across the nation.


Salem Man Arrested Following an Altercation With Police

We have just learned that 47 year old Salem resident, Rudolph Murie, was arrested Monday morning following an incident that began around 11 A.M. when a resident called Salem Police to report a suspicious vehicle, and ended in an altercation with Salem Police.


OSP Seeks Public's Help Locating Driver of Pickup Truck

Oregon State Police say that on November 14, at approximately 9:30 PM, the Northern Command Center was notified of a large metal object that had fallen off of a pick-up truck. The pick-up was pulling a flat bed trailer and the object fell off of the trailer.

Man Found Dead in Northeast Salem

UPDATE: Victim ID. and autopsy results. Salem Police Department says that detectives are investigating a death in northeast Salem.  Officers responded to an alley west of the 1800 block of Liberty St NE shortly after 7:00 am Friday morning on a report of an unconscious subject in a vehicle.


Raw Sewage Spill in West Salem

The City of Salem announced that an overflow of raw sewage occurred today at approximately 11:00 AM. City officials said any bacteria that entered the site should be flushed out of the water body in the next few days. They did not say where it will flush to.


Fleeing Motorist Crashes After Attempting To Elude Yamhill County Deputy

Late Thursday morning, a Yamhill County Sheriff Deputy attempted to stop a white 1996 Nissan Altima for a traffic violation on N.E. Alpine Avenue in McMinnville. The driver fled and attempted to elude the deputy, and a pursuit started eventually reaching speeds in excess of 70 mph.

The Early College High School (ECHS), located on the Chemeketa Community College campus was placed in lock down Thursday morning after someone sent a threatening email using a hacked or “swatted” email account.
