Car Crash Leads to Suspicious Death Investigation

Salem Police Detectives are asking for assistance

— The death of a driver, Randy Breyer, was not caused by the crash, and this case is being investigated as a suspicious death.

The deceased was reportedly driving southbound on 12th St SE before crashing into the bridge abutment south of Bellevue St SE.

 from the public in this investigation. 

Detectives with the Salem Police are attempting to determine the whereabouts of Randy Phillip Breyer prior to the crash and anyone with whom he may have had contact. 

Investigators are asking anyone who may have had contact with Mr. Breyer, know of his activities on the evening of August 29, or may have seen his vehicle on that evening to call the Salem PD TIPS line at 503-588-8477.

Detectives are also asking anyone who has surveillance video systems to check that video for Mr. Breyer and/or his vehicle on the evening of August 29 until approximately 1:00 am on August 30.  

His next of kin have been notified. It is believed that he has been living out of his vehicle. 

The vehicle is distinctive as the left side of the vehicle had numerous areas where dark colored duct tape was covering one side and holding parts of the vehicle together.
