Pedestrian Struck and Killed in Salem

(SALEM, Ore) — A pedestrian was sturck by a car and killed about 5:30 this evening on Summer Street when he walked into trafic.

The name of the deceased is being with held by police pending notification to next of kin.

The driver of the vehicle was identified as Guadalupe Garcia, 42years old, of Salem.

The investigation revealed that Garcia was traveling south on Summer St. NE, near E St. in a 2014 Chevrolet Camaro.

As Garcia continued driving south of E St. NE approx 25 yds., the pedestrian walked out into the path of her vehicle and was struck.

Garcia remained at the crash scene and is cooperating with Traffic Control Unit investigators.

Police say there is no indication that Garcia was impaired or speeding.

Summer St. NE was re-opened for normal traffic flow at 9:00pm.
