— Chief Terry Riley was officially sworn in Friday as the fire chief for Marion county Fire District #1.

The swearing in ceremony was held at Station 1 in the newly constructed apparatus bays where Chief Riley took his oath in front of a sea of family, friends, district personnel, and representatives from neighboring fire and public safety agencies.

Before administering the oath of office, Board President Bernie Otjen stated, "This organization needs a qualified chief to lead the way, and dedicated personnel who are willing to follow.

We believe we have that in Chief Riley, and as evidenced by those here today, we also have the dedicated personnel who are prepared and ready to follow his lead."

Chief Riley's wife, Lona, had the honor of pinning Chief Riley with his new gold badge.

In his first public address as the fire chief, Chief Riley said that he looks forward to what the future has in store for MCFD#1, saying that he is honored to, "work alongside some of the finest people I've had the privilege to work with as we make a positive difference in our community."

He added that he is humbled by his selection as fire chief, and expressed his appreciation to the Board of Directors for putting their faith in him to lead.

Chief Riley's fire service career began in 1989 as a volunteer firefighter at Applegate Fire District.

He came to MCFD#1 in 2008 as the Training Officer and was appointed to Assistant Fire Chief in July 2013.

He has been the interim Fire Chief since October 30, 2014.

Thank you for your service to our county Chief.
