The Girls Ages 4 and 5 Narrowly Escaped Injury
(SALEM, Ore) — Just after 3:00 am this morning, Marion County Fire District No. 1, as well as Marion County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a reported vehicle crash into a house in the 4700 block of Herrin Road NE.
Upon arrival, firefighters discovered that a driver of a vehicle traveling on Herrin Road struck another vehicle parked along side of the road head-on, pushing that vehicle into a neighbor's home.
The second vehicle was pushed through the wall of the house, going into the bedroom of two young girls who were sleeping narrowly missing both girls in the room.
Firefighters evaluated the driver of the vehicle who was uninjured and declining transport to the hospital.
Firefighters also evaluated to two girls in the involved home, Paloma age 5 & Danica age 4. Both were found to be uninjured.
According to Sheriff's deputies at the scene, Andres Espinoza-Chavez, age 22 of Salem, was arrested on alcohol related charges and transported to the Marion County Jail.
Firefighters remained at the scene assisting the family with temporary repairs to the exterior wall of the home, as well as giving the children a tour of the fire trucks on scene.
Firefighters are thankful to report that the children are uninjured and are doing well this morning.
Only a few inches in either direction and this story may have had a very different outcome.
