(SALEM, Ore.) — Come catch a fish at the State Capitol Mall (900 Court Street NE) on Saturday, May 25 from 9 a.m.-noon.
The Oregon Legislative Sportsmen’s Caucus and ODFW are teaming up with many other outdoor organizations to host this family event.
A “pond” set up at the mall will be stocked with rainbow trout.
Staff from various organizations including ODFW volunteer fishing instructors will be on hand with rods, reels, bait and all the gear you need to try fishing. Other volunteers will teach casting, fish anatomy and knot tying. Finally, if you catch a fish, Outdoor Chef Kurt will cook it for you!
“Few things make me happier than seeing a kid catch their first fish,” said Rep. Sherrie Sprenger of Scio, who currently serves as Chair of the Oregon Legislative Sportsmen’s Caucus. “I hope to see plenty of that on Saturday, May 25 at the Capitol!”
“Volunteers and staff are more than willing to help with all fishing-related questions at this event and other Family Fishing Events,” says Amanda Boyles, ODFW Angling Education Coordinator. “Please come out and have fun fishing with us at the Capitol.”
All ages are welcome at the event, and kids age 17 and under fish for free.
The Oregon Legislative Sportsmen’s Caucus is sponsoring this event, along with ODFW, the National Sportfishing Industry Association, Congressional Sportsmen’s Foundation, Coastal Conservation Association, Oregon Hunters Association, Association of Northwest Steelheaders, I’m Hooked, Marion SWCD, Outdoor Chef Kurt, and the Desert Springs Trout Farm.
