Camp Agape is for children of incarcerated parents
(SALEM, Ore) — Men in custody at the Oregon State Correctional Institution recently raised $4,200 for Camp Agape Oregon when they hosted their annual walkathon fundraiser.
The event was held on the institution yard to raise money for children of incarcerated parents to attend Camp Agape, a four day experience for children in Lane County who have a parent in prison.
The camp's main purpose is to break the cycles of incarceration.
Inmate clubs at OSCI have sponsored Camp Agape, as well as Gales Creek, a camp aimed at developing confidence in children and teens with diabetes, since their first walkathon in 2007.
Since then, they have raised more than $29,800 and sent numerous children to camp.
OSCI is a medium-security men's prison in Salem that houses approximately 870 male inmates.
It provides a range of correctional services and programs including education, drug and alcohol treatment, mental health treatment, religious services, inmate work crews, and transition planning.
OSCI participates in prison industries with Oregon Corrections Enterprises, including a print shop and a contact center.
OSCI was established by action of the 1955 Legislature and became fully operational on June 1, 1959.
