Corvallis Man Arrested for Attempted ATM Robbery

Corvallis police say at 4:45 a.m., the victim was approached by Corvallis resident Kevin Steinberger who asked him for some money.

— A Corvallis man is lucky not to have sustained more serious injuries after another man tried to rob him after he took money out of a Bank of America ATM machine Wednesday morning.

Corvallis police say at 4:45 a.m., the victim was approached by Corvallis resident Kevin Steinberger who asked him for some money.

The victim declined, and Steinberger at first walked away, however police say he became upset because the victim declined to give him any money.

Steinberger then went back and approached the victim, produced a knife from his pocket, and threatened to cut the victim’s throat.

Police then say Steinberger pushed the victim to the ground, and fled the area towards the riverfront and SW 1st Street. He did not get any money from the victim.

Steinberger was located a short time later and arrested.

The victim in this incident, also from Corvallis, sustained minor injuries. 

Steinberger is currently charged with: Attempted Robbery in the First Degree; Unlawful Use of a Weapon; Menacing; Attempted Assault in the First Degree; Attempted Theft in the Third Degree. 

Steinberger is currently lodged at the Benton County Jail with a bail amount set at $316,000.
