(SALEM, Ore) — Marion County Fire District #1 held a special board meeting today to appoint an acting/interim fire chief for the fire district. Former Chief J. Kevin Henson submitted his resignation earlier this month with an effective date of October 31st, and the board of directors unanimously supported the appointment of Assistant Chief Terry Riley as the acting interim fire chief.
Chief Riley has been the assistant fire chief since July 1, 2013.
Chief Riley's firefighting career began with Oregon Department of Forestry in 1989 and he has served in an officer capacity since 1991.
He has served as a Battalion Chief at Applegate Fire District in Jacksonville, and as a Division Chief for Aumsville Fire District.
His career with Marion County Fire District #1 began in 2008 as the Training Captain after serving at DPSST for 8 years, 2 years as the Fire Program Manager and 6 years as a Regional Fire Training Coordinator.
The Board is pleased that Chief Riley has accepted the appointment.
This will provide for continuity of leadership for the fire district in the immediate future.
The board president, Berny Otjen, says that "as Assistant Chief Terry Riley has already been handling the command of Marion Co. Fire Dist. #1".
"In addition, this appointment will allow the board to have a more in depth discussion about the path moving forward at our next meeting on Nov. 20".
