Bystanders indicated that one man got out of the vehicle after it entered the water and began swimming to shore. The man reportedly stated that no one else was in the vehicle. The man was unable to make it to shore and died trying.
(PORTLAND, Ore) — This Morning at 6:54 AM Portland Firefighters were called to the scene of a vehicle into the Columbia river along Marine Drive.
Bystanders indicated that one man got out of the vehicle after it entered the water and began swimming to shore.
The man reportedly stated that no one else was in the vehicle.
The man was unable to make it to shore and died trying.
Firefighters from PF&R and the Port of Portland arrived and began searching for the victim from shore and from fire boats.
The victim was located approximately 12 feet from shore and was recovered by PF&R and the Multnomah County Sheriff's Deputies
Portland Fire and Recue was assisted at the scene by Port of Portland Fire, Multnomah County Sheriffs, Portland Police Bureau.
Fire crews have cleared the scene.
Law enforcement agencies will be investigating.
