UDATE #2:Confirmed Fatality in Single Vehicle v. Pedestrian Accident in Salem
Salem Police confirm one man is deceased after pedestrian involved crash
(SALEM, Ore) — The Salem Police Department is on scene of a fatal motor vehicle accident on Center St NE at Illinois St NE involving a single vehicle v. pedestrian.
Sgt. Van Meter of the Salem Police Department has confirmed one male fatality in the accident.
The driver remained on scene and was cooperative with police.
UPDATE: Lt. Dave Okada from Salem Police tells Salem News Journal that 59 year old Norberto Sonahua-Arguelles was struck and killed Friday night while walking on Center Street.
The victom was hit, in the roadway, by a vehicle being driven by 66 year old, Maria Griest while traveling East on Center Street about 7:50pm.
Okada says there is no indication that impairment or speed was a factor in the crash that occured in the intersection of Illinois Ave and Center Street.
Griest remained on the scene and assisting with the investigation.
