(PLEASANT HILL, Ore. ) — A nighttime highway striping operation will reduce lanes and create short delays for motorists and bicyclists on OR 58 between Pleasant Hill and Dexter, in Lane County this weekend.
Slow moving striping equipment will be working between 7:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 4 and Sunday, Oct. 5.
Motorists are encouraged to reduce speed, avoid crossing over freshly placed striping and follow the directions of flaggers on OR 58, between mileposts 6.5 and 11.
The highway segment was the recent focus of a road reconstruction and paving project.
A delay in striping occurred for a few reasons including, the small number of striping subcontractors who are in high demand for numerous paving projects at the end of a busy construction season.
In addition, the subcontractor on the OR 58 project lost one of its striping trucks in a fire.
"Ordinarily, we don't like to allow construction on a busy highway during the weekend," said ODOT Area 5 Project Manager Chuck Lemos. "But in the interest of making this stretch of highway safer and completing this project, we're allowing it this time."
Motorists traveling through the area during the nighttime hours should plan for delays of up to 20 minutes.
