Investigators with the McMinnville Police Department, with extensive assistance from other law enforcement agencies in Oregon and Washington, determined that reported threats and assaults against a specific family in Amity in July were unfounded.

Officers from multiple agencies responded to a residence in the 100 block of Trade Street on July 30, 2014.

They initially were given information that an adult Hispanic male initiated a confrontation with Maria Del Pilar Torres-Rodriguez in the front yard of her residence.

It was reported by Maria that they struggled briefly until she used a firearm to inflict a serious injury to the male's lower left abdomen and the male fled in a vehicle.

This crime scene investigation required that Hwy 99W be closed through a portion of the City of Amity for approximately four hours.

This incident was reported as a continuation of threats against and assaults upon the same adult female over several weeks prior to that date.

The female and her spouse reported these incidents on separate occasions to officers with the Amity Police Department, Yamhill County Sheriff's Office, and McMinnville Police Department.

There was a specific phone number which was used by the "suspect" to communicate threats to the Hispanic female and other members of her family.

These threats stopped after the July 30 incident.

The "suspect" was tentatively identified by the adult female and her spouse as a resident in Yakima, Washington.

The reported suspect in Yakima, Washington, fully cooperated with investigators and was determined to be uninvolved in these incidents.

Investigators eventually learned the "suspects" phone number was being used by Maria Del Pilar Torres-Rodriguez.

Investigators found no independent corroboration for any of the reported assaults.

On October 7, 2014, investigators arrested Maria.

Maria Del Pilar Torres-Rodriguez, 44 years old, was charged with Initiating a False Report, three counts, and she was lodged at the Yamhill County Jail pending arraignment.

Her bail was set at $15,000.

The McMinnville Police Department would like to thank the following agencies for their assistance in this investigation by providing personnel and significant time towards this investigation: Amity Police Department, Beaverton Police Department, Newberg Police Department, Oregon State Police, Oregon Department of Justice, Portland Police Bureau, Washington County Sheriff's Office, Yakima Washington Police Department, Yamhill County District Attorney's Office , Yamhill County Interagency Narcotics Team, Yamhill County Sheriff's Office.

The Police Department is preparing a request for restitution through the District Attorney's Office for costs incurred during the investigation of these false reports.
