— A single-wide manufactured home was gutted late Friday night in northeast Salem, and has left a family of six homeless.

Salem firefighters were called to the home, located at 1758 38th Place, at 11:51 p.m. on the report of a structure fire. As crews were en-route, they learned that there could be four children inside the burning home.

Ty Gunesch with the Salem Fire Department said that once crews learned of the situation they were facing, they called in a second alarm.

First arriving crews found the home fully involved, and firefighters quickly worked to knock out the blaze, and kept it from spreading to nearby homes inside the manufactured home park.

Once it was safe for a rescue crew to go inside, they searched inside the home, and were unable to locate anyone inside, even after a second search Gunesch said.

Salem Fire Marshal Laird Case said that the fire started in one of the rear bedrooms, and an adult was home at the time of the fire and was able to escape.

The missing children were later located, and reunited with their parents.

The home is a complete loss, and the exact cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Red Cross is providing food, shelter and other items for the family.
