— Thursday afternoon at 2:34 p.m., Portland Firefighters were called to a wildfire on SW Capitol Hwy between Terwilliger and Barbur.

Fire crews from Station 5 arrived and found a fire burning up the hillside from Capitol to Terwilliger. Firefighters began working to put a "wet line" around the fire (soaking the plants and detritus on the fires perimeter).

The fire necessitated closing Capitol and Terwilliger for a time.

The fire was knocked down and firefighters began mopping up or cooling and removing burning material. While firefighters were extinguishing this fire another brush fire was reported in the area of 3400 NW Raleigh.

Fire commanders sent some of the engine crews from the capitol fire straight to the Raleigh fire.

So far on Thursday, there have been over thirty wildland incidents in Portland Fire and Rescue's response area.

Portland Fire and Rescue reminds residents to be fire safe during this hot, dry and windy weather.

A Red Flag fire warning is in effect and the public is asked to refrain from outdoor recreational burning.
