(PORTLAND, Ore. ) — The Department of Consumer and Business Services has revoked the license of a Portland insurance agent for collecting money for policies but never forwarding the premium to the insurance company – leaving many Oregonians without coverage.
The department’s Insurance Division revoked the license of Indira Jaskic and Jaskic Insurance after receiving complaints from consumers who paid for auto insurance polices but later found they had no coverage. Jaskic operated her insurance agency under the name Aseguranza Latina.
The division’s investigation found that Jaskic collected premiums that were not sent to the insurer, used funds in a premium trust account for personal and business expenses, and sold policies during periods when she was not licensed. The division found that many of Jaskic’s victims did not speak English or had limited English skills.
“Oregonians should be able to trust that their insurance agent secures the coverage they pay for,” said Insurance Commissioner Laura Cali. “Although we received complaints from several consumers in this case, we believe there may be more victims. We urge anyone who bought a policy from this agent to contact our office to ensure they do not have a gap in coverage and to talk to a consumer advocate.”
