Portland police report that the young boy in this accident has died from his injuries.
(PORTLAND, Ore. ) — A small child from Portland remains in critical condition Monday, after he fell from a second story window Sunday afternoon.
Portland police and Portland Fire and Rescue were called to Southeast 113th Avenue and Division Street as the victim was being transported to the hospital in a private car.
Officers and medical personnel met up with the family and found that the 3-year-old boy had critically injures to his head, and transported him by ambulance to a Portland area hospital.
Portland Police Officers learned that the fall actually occurred at a residence in the 2600 block of Southeast 125th Avenue, and that the boy fell from a 2nd story window, and landed on the concrete below the window.
Police say this tragic incident appears to have been an accidental fall while the child was playing with other children in an upstairs bedroom.
Detectives assigned to the Child Abuse Team were notified as is standard protocol with these types of incidents.
Randall Children's Hospital and Portland Fire and Rescue would like to remind parents of the following safety tips to help prevent these tragic accidents:
* Keep play away from windows.
* Only allow windows to open 4 inches, and install window stops and/or window guards that can be removed by an adult in an emergency.
* Lock windows when not in use.
* Open windows from the top and use a window stop for the bottom.
* Prevent climbing. Keep furniture and anything a child can climb on away from windows.
* Actively watch children near windows.
UPDATE at 9:30 a.m.: Portland police say the young boy in this incident did not survive from his injuries.
