(SALEM, Ore) —
A fiery crash on I-5 in Albany just after midnight sent one man to a Portland hospital.
Oregon State Police says that the preliminary investigation revealed that a 2016 Freightliner pulling a trailer, operated by Terence Jay Shaw, age 51 of Riverside CA, was traveling northbound on I-5 when for unknown reasons the vehicle drifted out of the travel lane.
The vehicle traveled through the gore point at exit 233, struck a guardrail and then struck a vertical pillar of the Highway 20 overpass.
A passing motorist stopped and helped pull the driver from the vehicle before it became fully engulfed in flames.
Shaw was transported to a Portland area hospital for injuries sustained in the crash and subsequent fire.
I-5 northbound was closed until the fire could be extinguished and remained partially closed for several hours.
OSP was assisted at the scene by Albany P.D., Albany Fire, and ODOT.
