(SALEM, Ore.) — Wearing large, brightly colored feathered headdresses as part of their cultural regalia, the members of Grupo Ritual Azteca Huitzilopochtli make quite a statement.
In fact, the members of the group adorn themselves with bright colors from head to toe and are sure to make a picture perfect post to your favorite social media account (#hispanicheritageday.)
You can snap that pic on Saturday, September 16 at 1 p.m. when the group performs at the Capitol for the third annual Hispanic Heritage Day celebration.
Huitzilopochtli’s mission is to teach indigenous Aztec culture and traditions through dance, music and the arts.
Which fits right in with this year’s theme Dance! Dance! Dance!
"The children, youth and adults from Ritual Azteca Huitzilopochtli are happy to share their art and cultural traditions at the Capitol this September 16th,” said group director Kelly Carlos Freeman.
“On this special day when Mexico celebrates their Independence, we will also celebrate that traditions live on in our multi-lingual and multi-cultural communities."
The event is brought to you by the Capitol History Gateway Project, and is sponsored by the Oregon State Capitol Foundation.
Hispanic Heritage Day goes from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. This event is free and open to the public, and parking around the Capitol is free on weekends. To see the full schedule, go to the event tab at www.oregoncapitol.com.
