(SALEM, Ore.) — Corvallis Mountain Rescue Locates Missing Hiker
Searchers with the Marion County Sheriff's Office, Corvallis Mountain Rescue Team, Polk County Sheriff's Office and the Army Air National Guard have been on scene and searching through the night for missing hiker Daniel Moung.
This afternoon searchers located Mr. Moung's tent and food but they have not yet located Mr. Moung.
Searchers with specialized skills in tracking are on scene and evaluating the area.
The Sheriff's Office is asking any hikers preparing to come to the area to please seek other areas to recreate.
The Sherriff's Office has adequate man power to search the area and any impromptu searchers risk damaging valuable evidence that may help the Sheriff's Office locate Mr. Moung.
Daniel Moung, age 40, of Salem was dropped off Thursday afternoon at the Elk Horn Ridge Trail Head where he intended to hike and stay overnight and return to the trail head the following day.
Friday at 1:00 p.m., when Mr. Moung did not arrive back at the trail head the Sheriff's Office was contacted.
Mr. Moung is an experienced hiker with supplies for 24 hours. Searchers are concerned as Mr. Moung has a form of autism and diabetes which requires medication.
The area Mr. Moung is believed to be located in is extremely steep and was impacted last night by a lightning storm and heavy winds.
Mr. Moung is a tan skinned male, who is 5'05" tall, 200 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes.
He was last seen wearing a green tee shirt, kaki cargo pants, tan hiking boots and prescription glasses.
The Sheriff's Office is asking anyone who may have been hiking in the area that may have seen Mr. Moung to please call MCSO at 503 588 5032.
