Update: Today in cooperation with fire officials and Marion County Emergency Management the decision was made to move the Breitenbush Hot Springs and the Breitenbush summer homes to a level 1 or a ready evacuation state.
On Sept. 14 the Marion County Commissioners issued a level 3 evacuation order for Breitenbush Hot Springs and the Breitenbush Summer Homes. The decision was made after weather experts determined a risk for thunder and lightening in the Santiam Canyon.
Due to the extreme risk of fire, fire danger, lack of resources to fight additional fires and in the interest of public safety, the County Forest Manager recommended the closure of all Hood River County Forestland, Forest Roads, and Forest Trails to all recreational use until further notice.
Today, the Marion County Board of Commissioners authorized a Level 1 Evacuation notice for the Breitenbush Hot Springs resort area and a portion of the Willamette National Forest. A Level 2 Evacuation notice would also be authorized if necessary.
