Boat Ramp Congestion Requires Etiquette and Courtesy

Summer boating may be over but the Fall salmon runs are bringing boaters from all over the state to fish Oregon's bays and rivers, creating a great deal of congestion and some angst at many of the coastal ramps. Boat ramp traffic jams can be eased if everyone practices courtesy and knows the proper etiq uette at the boat ramp. And once your boat is underway, it's important to remember the proximity rules for speed and wake to avoid agitating other boaters.

Fall has arrived in Oregon, whether you were prepared for it or not. The leaves here in the valley are just starting to turn, and we’re seeing almost as much rain as we are sunshine these days. If you travel up into the mountains you’ll find that many of the leaves are in bright fall colors, or some of them already littering the ground. And if you can catch a glimpse of the High Cascades, you’ll see the first fall snows have already blanketed their peaks

It’s a symbol of safety and most boaters know that wearing a life jacket can save your life.  But did you know that most recreational boating fatalities involve adults who have years of boating experience but succumb to drowning from falling overboard or capsizing?

Beginning Friday, Oct. 3 Buoy 10 anglers will be able to add an additional fin-clipped coho to their daily bag limit.

The Clatsop beaches will re-open to razor clamming Oct. 1 following the annual conservation closure.
