— After finishing her first weekend of collegiate volleyball with 51 kills and helping her team to a sweep of the Utah State Invitational, Mary-Kate Marshall was named the first Pac-12 Freshman of the Week for the 2014 season.

“Mary-Kate had a great first weekend,” said head coach Taras Liskevych. “We all know that she’s a very accomplished player both in the front-court and back-court. Mary-Kate is going to be a great volleyball player, she’s got lots to learn but the great thing about her is that she is very level headed and a hard worker. The best is yet to come from her.”

Marshall is the first Pac-12 Freshman of the week for the Beavers since senior Arica Nassar earned the spot Oct. 31, 2011. Marshall ranks No. 4 in the conference with 4.64 kills per set. She is the only underclassman ranked as the rest of the top-10 is comprised of seniors and juniors.

The Tournament MVP, Marshall hit .400 in her first match against Saint Mary’s, downing 12 kills in just 25 swings with only two errors. She totaled 21 kills in five sets against Utah State and finished the weekend with 18 kills in just 34 swings with only 2 errors. Marshall just missed a double-double against Utah State, finishing with nine digs to go with her 21 klls. She also totaled 66 service receptions, with only one error, coming in the first match.

The Beavers will return to action Friday, Sept. 5 as they face the Pacific Tigers at 4:00 p.m. in Seattle at the Redhawk Invitational.

The Beavers will also play Lafayette College and the host Seattle U during the weekend.
