The Tigard Police Department, in cooperation with Crime Stoppers of Oregon, is asking for the public's help to locate a wanted murder suspect.
Airmen from the 142nd Explosive Ordnance Disposal unit, Oregon Air National Guard, presented a decommissioned Remote Ordnance Neutralization System (RONS) robot to the Oregon Military Museum at Camp Withycombe in Clackamas, Oregon, Feb. 6.
The majority of narcotics canines utilized by law enforcement have been trained as "4 odor dogs", meaning they have been trained to alert to the odor of methamphetamine, cocaine, heroin, and marijuana. The pending change authorizing the limited legalization of recreational marijuana has created a quandary for narcotics canine usage within the law enforcement community. This is the case with the narcotics dog belonging to the Newberg-Dundee Police Department.
A proposed streetlight fee, which would cost single-family households in Salem about $2.80 per month, will be considered by Salem City Council. The council on Monday will likely vote on scheduling a public hearing on the streetlight fee, tentatively planned for Feb. 23. Salem has relied on the gasoline tax for both streetlights and road repairs. The city's forecast for gas tax revenue, however, shows that gas tax alone won't be sufficient to pay for streetlights and road repairs.
Earlier this evening a woman was struck by an SUV while she sat on a bench in front of the EZ Laundry in South Salem. The driver remained on the scene, and police tell us that alcohol was not a factor. The woman was transported to Salem Hospital with unknown injuries.
Salem Police are investigating an early morning fatal vehicle/pedestrian crash on Center St NE near 18th St NE. Salem Police officers were dispatched to the intersection at approximately 5:45 this morning and found that 64-year old Stephen Buchanan of Keizer had been driving eastbound on Center St when he struck 77-year old David McGregor of Salem.
The City of Salem says that River Road South will remain close through tomorrow morning. The extra time is so city and contract workers can complete additional repairs to the protective screening at that location. We expect to be able to bring you an update on their progress by early afternoon tomorrow. Until then plan to use alternate routes for your morning commute.
Salem Police and Fire responded to a one vehicle rollover accident on River Road South in Salem. The accident was caused by a mud slide in the road which has caused the full closure of River Road South, northbound at Schurman Dr South, and south bound at Owens Street South and Fir Street South.
Update: River Road South will remain closed overnight and for most of Wednesday.
The Polk County Marine Patrol finished up their seasonal program year at the end of September. This past summer was a busy year for the Marine Patrol Unit as the use of the Willamette River continues to increase yearly for both motorized and non-motorized activities. This year we saw a significant increase in our floating traffic from previous years due to the new launch ramps that opened up the previous year in Keizer and Independence.
