The first half was fairly even between the two sides, with Corban outshooting the Oaks, 5-4.
(MEDFORD, Ore. ) — The Corban University women's soccer team continued its road travels on Friday afternoon as it competed in the SOU Opening GALA, and despite outshooting Menlo College, the Warriors suffered their first loss of the 2014 campaign, 0-1.
The first half was fairly even between the two sides, with Corban outshooting the Oaks, 5-4.
Menlo, however, found the breakthrough early in the second stanza when Brittany Squarcia got in behind the Warrior defense on a breakaway opportunity, and she slotted her shot into the back of the net from right to left, putting the Oaks in front.
From that point forward, Corban dominated the second half, racking up 11 shots with six going on frame. The Warriors could not find the finishing touch though, ultimately resulting in the first time Corban had been shut-out on the season.
The Oaks only managed to register two total shots during the final 45 minutes, forcing Corban senior goalkeeper Kaitlyn Mendenhall (Windsor, Calif.) into one save.
Offensively, junior forward Katelyn Fekkes (Stanwood, Wash.) led the way for the Warriors with four shots and two on goal, while senior midfielder Sierra Brusven (Silverton, Ore.) tallied three shots on the evening. For the match, Corban outshot Menlo, 16-6.
The Warriors (2-1) return to the pitch on Sunday when they take on Hope International University (Calif.).
Kickoff in Medford is set for 11:00 a.m.
