— After helping her team go 3-0 on the weekend, improving to 10-1 on the year along with putting down 21 blocks in the process, Arica Nassar has been named Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Week.

“Arica has been doing an outstanding job blocking this year,” said head coach Taras Liskevych. “She’s really helped blocking become infectious for the team, as evident from this past weekend. Our blocking has been a real asset for us this year and we’re hoping to continue that over into conference play this week.”

Nassar was a force at the net this weekend, continuing her year as one of the top blockers in the nation. She averaged 1.75 blocks per set and earned her first double-double of the season, with 11 kills and 11 blocks in a 5-set win over long beach state.

Nassar also averaged 2.33 kills per set, hitting .442 on the weekend with 28 kills on only 52 swings. For the year she has 66 blocking in 37 sets, a Pac-12 best 1.78 per set average.

This is the third time Nassar has earned a Pac-12 honor and her second Defensive Player of the Week award.

The Beavers start conference play Wednesday, Sept. 24 at 7:30 p.m. with a trip to Eugene to face Oregon in the Civil War presented by PacificSource Health Plans, The Oregon 529 College Savings Network, McDonalds, Spirit Mountain Casino and Your Local Ford Stores.
