Cal Poly Pomona Downs Western Oregon in Five Sets

Chico State and Western Oregon meet for the 10th time in their program's history Saturday.

— The Western Oregon University volleyball team surrendered another set lead in a five-set loss to Cal Poly Pomona Friday in the sixth match of the First Serve tournament hosted by Seattle Pacific University, 23-25, 25-22, 25-21, 17-25, and 6-15.
 
In a match that featured 34 ties and 16 lead changes, CPP (2-0) pulled away with the final two sets to escape Brougham Pavilion and remain unbeaten in the early season. The first three sets were close, as the margin was never larger than three in the opening two frames. The Wolves trailed 23-21 in the second set, before scoring the final four points of the set.
 
Four Broncos finished with double-digit kill totals led by Hannah Harrer's 13. Deanna Blaine and Christen Williams both had 12, while Alexa Hasen added 10. Alina Smith and Nicoletta Stork combined for 55 of Cal Poly Pomona's 63 assists. Zoe Herrera recorded a match-high 17 digs, Blaine completed with a double-double with 16. She also had four service aces. Tatiana Martinez and Smith both had 12 digs. Williams totaled five blocks and had a .450 attack percentage.
 
Cal Poly Pomona had a slim .168 to .134 attack percentage edge. The Broncos totaled 66 terminations to WOU's 45. The Wolves had an advantage defending the net with a 16-10 block edge. Western Oregon did commit 10 of the 19 service errors in the match.
 
Sam Moore finished with a match-high nine blocks to lead WOU (0-2). Cherene O'Hara reached double-digit kills for the 10th time in her career, finishing with 13. Hannah Deede had 10. Kiana Cash once again led the Wolves in assists, as the freshman dished out 19. Jordin Ramos added 15. Jaryn Ramos and Christie Colasurdo had 14 digs.
 
Chico State and Western Oregon meet for the 10th time in their program's history Saturday. The Wildcats (0-1) hold a 7-2 advantage in the all-time series. Cal State-Chico was swept by Dixie State in its season-opener Friday. The ninth match of the SPU tournament begins at 1:30 p.m.
