— Corban University, Oregon Tech, and Warner Pacific College kicked off the 2014-15 golf campaign with an exciting showing at the Corban Fall Invite on Monday and Tuesday, and after coming from behind in the final round of competition, the Corban men's golf team won the tournament in a playoff, while Oregon Tech claimed the title on the women's side.

Individually, Corban freshman Kade Crossland (Buhl, Idaho) won in a playoff for the men, while sophomore Brooke Spencer (Oakland, Ore.) won the individual title for the Warrior women.

In dramatic fashion on the final day of the tournament, the Corban men clawed back to send the tournament into a one-hole playoff after starting the day trailing Oregon Tech by 10 strokes.  In the playoff, the Warriors outlasted the Owls, earning the team victory.  Both squads finished the three-round tournament with a score of 886.

Leading the way for the Warriors was freshman Kade Crossland (Buhl, Idaho) as he also came from behind on the final three holes, forcing a playoff with Oregon Tech's Tyler Swinton for individual medalist honors.  In the playoff, Crossland won the hole, securing his first-ever individual collegiate victory in his first-collegiate competition.

For the tournament, Crossland showed consistency with a three-round total of 215 (70, 73, 72), while notching 14 birdies and 27 pars over the course of the tournament.  He also tallied a 4.58 scoring average on par-five holes, and an even-par average on par-four holes.

Swinton registered a three-round mark of 215 (72, 71, 72) as well and led the field with 15 birdies, while also recording 28 pars.

Corban sophomore swinger Blake Netter (Canby, Ore.) came on strong on the final day of competition, tying the school record with a round of 67 and finishing with a tournament total of 217 (73, 77, 67), placing him third overall in the field.

Warrior senior David Patterson (Camas, Wash.) finished fifth overall with a mark of 223 (75, 77, 71), while fellow senior Thomas Graves (Lincoln City, Ore.) took 10th overall with a three-round total of 231 (76, 79, 76).

"I was very proud of our entire men's team today," commented Warrior head golf coach Paul Pickerell.  "We were down 10 shots to OIT going into the final round and hung in there, kept battling, and pulled out the come-from-behind win on the first playoff hole.  Blake Netter was absolutely on fire all day and shot a career-best five-under par round of 67 to pace the team and Kade Crossland shot a three-day total of one-under par, 215, to win the individual title, also on the first playoff hole."

Warner Pacific took third on the men's side as a team, recording a total score of 927.  Royce Rosenthal led the way and tied for sixth place with a mark of 225 (76, 71, 78).

For the Corban women, Spencer built her lead in the opening round when she smashed the school record with a score of 72, putting her atop the Corban record books.  She would go on to win the tournament by six strokes with a three-round total of 230 (72, 81, 77). Spencer led the field in par-three scoring (3.33), par-four scoring (4.23), and par-five scoring (5.25) in addition to racking up a tournament-best seven birdies.  Fellow Corban sophomore Carrie Wallace (La Grande, Ore.) notched a solid overall showing as well, taking fifth place with a total of 258 (88, 84, 86) for the tournament.  Both players competed as individuals for the Warriors.

"On the women's side of the tournament, Brooke Spencer won the individual title with a three-round total of 230, including a first-round score of 72 that set the new Corban single-round record, and Carrie Wallace took fifth place at 258, which was a career-best three-day total," said Pickerell.
