— The No. 14 Oregon volleyball team took down Portland State in four sets, Monday, 25-22, 25-23, 23-25, 25-16.

How It Happened:

The Ducks (9-0) got off to a slow start in each of the first two sets and were forced to play from behind, but mounted comebacks to go up 2-0. Oregon jumped out to a lead in the third set, but right as it look liked the team was in the final stages of closing out the match up 18-12, Portland State stormed back on a 12-2 run and eventually finished the set out at 25-23.

In the fourth, the Ducks stepped on the gas with a 9-2 run to go up 20-13 and finished out the match with a 25-16 win as the offense started to click.

Portland native Martenne Bettendorf led the team with 12 kills, hitting .294 while Amanda Benson made big plays on the defensive end with 18 digs.

What It Means:

Despite the worst offensive performance of the season, Oregon was able to scrap its way to a win. The Ducks hit .237 compared to their season average of .307. While the first two sets saw sloppy play at times from both teams, Oregon was able to find crucial points at the end of each of the first two sets before running away in the fourth set.

Homecoming:

The trip to Portland was a homecoming for Liz Brenner, Martenne Bettendorf and Taylor Agost, each of whom started the match.

Up Next:

Oregon will have a week off before facing Seattle on Tuesday, Sept. 23 at Matthew Knight Arena.
