Oregon State will return to Paul Lorenz Field for a matchup with Eastern Michigan on Sunday.
(CORVALLIS, Ore.) — Freshman goalkeeper Bella Geist recorded her second clean sheet of the season, as the Oregon State women’s soccer team battled Cal State Fullerton to a hard-fought 0-0 draw Friday evening at Paul Lorenz Field.
“I think we played a pretty good match today,” said head coach Linus Rhode. “We started off strong. We’ve been working a lot on our defensive shape and how to attack out of that, and I think we did that well at times tonight. As the game went on, and we started to fatigue, we did a good job of keeping our composure. We continued to connect passes and keep the ball in play, which is something we have to do to be successful.”
Geist’s best save of the game came in the first half, when she dove to her left to prevent a goal off a Cal State Fullerton (0-3-2) free kick. The freshman finished the match with five saves.
The Beavers (0-3-2) produced a solid scoring chance in the 42nd minute, as freshman Maddie Misi had a pair of shots in quick succession on a scramble in the box, but the Titan defense was able to recover to keep the ball out of the net.
Oregon State continued to show its strong defensive shape throughout the contest, and it looked as though the Beavers might be able to get on the board late in the second overtime period when the ball fell to freshman Nikki Faris on the left side of the box. The forward’s shot curled just wide, however, and the clock ran out with the score tied at zero.
Misi finished the contest with three shots, while fellow freshman Kayla Latham tallied a pair of shots.
The Oregon State back line of junior Gwen Bieck and sophomores Helene Haavik, Kathryn Baker and Annie Govig all played the full 110 minutes, helping the Beavers keep the Titans off the board.
