(SEATTLE, Wash. ) — The Oregon State volleyball team remained undefeated on the season, besting SeattleU in straight sets (25-20, 25-22, 26-24).
Katelyn Driscoll was named Tournament MVP of the Redhawk Invitational, while Mary-Kate Marshall and Laura Schaudt were also named to the all-tournament team.
“We found a way to come back in that third set and I think that was impressive,” said head coach Taras Liskevych. “We were down and out in the beginning of that set. They kept the pressure on us serving really well. We struggled a little bit with our passing but that’s going to happen on nights when teams are serving that well. I’m really proud of the way we hung in there in the end.”
The Redhawks started quickly in the third set, jumping out to a 7-2 lead. The teams traded points until 11-7 when the Beavers went on a 5-1 run to pull within one point at 13-12. The set remained close with Driscoll putting down multiple kills, scoring five with only six swings in the final set. Marshall continued her strong start to her freshman year, tying the score at 22-22 and again at 23-23 with a pair of kills. The freshman downed another kill to make it 25-24 before clinching the win with her third service ace, giving the Beavs a 3-0 win.

The second set was one of runs. After the teams traded points early with the Redhawks leading 10-9 the Beavers started a 6-1 run to take a 15-11 lead. SeattleU quickly went on a 6-2 run to tie the set at 17-17. OSU countered with their own 6-2 run to take a 23-19 lead. The Redhawks pulled as close as 24-22 before Marshall downed her sixth kill of the night to give the Beavers the second set 25-22.
Marshall finished the weekend with 24 kill in six sets, a 4.00 per set rate. Driscoll finished with 23 kills in eight sets, with only 44 swings, a .477 attack percentage. “I thought overall we did pretty well as a team,” said Driscoll. “We still have a lot to work on going forward. I am honored to have been named tournament MVP. I wouldn’t have had the opportunity to earn it without my team.”
The Beavers return to the court for their home opener Friday, Sept. 12 at 5:30 p.m. when they welcome the University of Michigan.
