Sean Mannion needs 186 yards this week to pass former OSU great Derek Anderson.
(CORVALLIS, Ore. ) — Oregon State quarterback Sean Mannion (seanmanniontheqb.com) has been named one of 30 finalists for the 2014 Senior CLASS Award, recognizing a senior Football Bowl Subdivision player that excels in four areas -- community, classroom, character and competition.
Mannion is the first three-year football team captain in Oregon State history. He has twice been selected to the Pac-12 Conference’s Academic Honorable Mention team.
The Pleasanton, Calif., native is on the verge of breaking the school record for career passing, needing 186 yards this week to pass former OSU great Derek Anderson.
Mannion currently has 11,064 yards, and is on pace to break the all-time Pac-12 career passing yards mark held by former USC standout Matt Barkley at 12,274 yards.
In addition to the Senior Class Award, Mannion is on the “watch lists” for the Maxwell Award (top player), Davey O’Brien Award (top QB), the Manning Award (top QB), Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award (top QB) and the Walter Camp Award (All-America team).
The list of finalists will be narrowed to 10 midway through the season and those individuals will be placed on a ballot that will be distributed nationwide to media, coaches and fans. The recipient will be announced in early January.
Undefeated Oregon State (2-0) returns to action this Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at Reser Stadium against the San Diego State Aztecs.
Tickets remain available and may be purchased at BeaverTickets.com or during business hours weekdays in Gill Coliseum or by calling 1-800-GO-Beavs.
The game will also be televised live by Fox Sports 1.
