— The Stayton Fire District responded to a two alarm brush fire on private land off Wagner Road, and right under and near high voltage transmission power lines Thursday night.

Stayton Fire District officials tell Salem News Journal that the fire burned just over two acres of grass, trees, and brush which was quickly contained.

14 apparatus with 35 personnel were on scene from Stayton Fire District and Oregon Department of Forestry with assistance from Lyons, Sublimity and Aumsville Fire Districts. No injuries were reported.

ODF crews remained on scene through the night mopping up and monitoring the fire.

Dry conditions and strong east winds contributed to the rapid fire spread, which are expected to continue through this weekend causing fire conditions to be extreme in the mid-Willamette valley.

Fire officials around the valley are asking everyone to use caution this weekend as temperatures are expected to be in the 90’s or above.

A Red Flag warning is now in effect.
