Pedestrian Killed Near Stayton
(December 11, 2014, 12:44 pm) STAYTON, Ore At the time of the crash it was dark, raining heavily with very little to no street lighting in the area.

Last night at about 6:00 p.m., deputies with the Marion County Sheriff's Office were called to the area of Cascade Highway and Golf Lane SE near Stayton to investigate a vehicle versus pedestrian crash. It was determined that Harold McAlister, age 59 of Sublimity was attempting to cross Cascade Highway near Golf Lane from east to west. At the time of the crash it was dark, raining heavily  with very little to no street lighting in the area.


The last contact anyone had with Mr. Fred was at 0600 hrs on Saturday morning
UPDATE: Search for Missing Hunter Underway in East Marion Co. MAN FOUND DECEASED
(October 8, 2014, 5:47 pm) STAYTON, Ore This evening, searchers with the Regretfully Mr. Fred was deceased at the time he was found. The investigation into the cause of death is ongoing at this time.

Today at about 0944 hours, Marion County Sheriff's Office responded to a report of a missing hunter in the 18000 block of Old Mehama RD SE.

The missing hunter is identified as 37 year old Corey Fred who is an experienced hunter and is familiar with the area he was hunting.

(September 23, 2014, 10:40 pm) STAYTON, Ore. Stayton police and the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife say this is a good reminder that residents in the Stayton area live where wild animals live as well.

A recent cougar sighting in the small Oregon community of Stayton has some residents on edge, and police along with state wildlife officials urging caution should you encounter one.

Two Alarm Fire Burns Through Grass, Trees, and Brush Near Stayton
(September 5, 2014, 5:24 pm) STAYTON, Ore. Fire officials around the valley are asking everyone to use caution this weekend as temperatures are expected to be in the 90’s or above.

The Stayton Fire District responded to a two alarm brush fire on private land off Wagner Road, and right under and near high voltage transmission power lines Thursday night.
