Edward Francis West, 59, of Salem is in custody after alledgley slapping a juvenile and then later pointing a firearm at him last Sunday at about 4:00 p.m. The disturbance began after two, 17 year old juveniles, crossed the street in front of Mr. Francis's truck on Center Street near Lancaster Drive NE in Salem.

UPDATE: Just after 3:00 PM, Douglas Barnes, 46 years of age from Amity, was operating a 1985 Peterbilt pulling two flat bed trailers loaded with lumber, when it rolled over as he was southbound on the Salem Parkway negotiating the curve onto Commercial St NE. Barnes was not injured in the crash. The truck leaked diesel fuel and the lumber spilled onto the roadway and into a manufactured home park. The crash also sheared off a power pole.

Governor Declares Drought Emergency in Two Oregon Counties

Governor Brown declared a drought emergency in Malheur and Lake counties due to dry conditions, low snowpack, and lack of precipitation. County commissioners from both jurisdictions requested the state to take action, and the Oregon Drought Council considered the counties’ requests by weighing current water conditions, future climatic forecasts, and agricultural impacts.

Today, the Oregon House of Representatives unanimously passed House Bill 2234, legislation that works to adequately fund Oregon’s community-based Child Abuse Intervention Centers (CAIC) by clarifying billing codes and processes to allow for the state’s reimbursement of the critical services these centers provide to treat and prevent child abuse.


West Coast Spikes lead to Higher Pump Prices Nationwide

Oregon has the dubious distinction of having the second-largest weekly increase in gas prices in the nation this week. Skyrocketing prices in West coast markets due to refinery outages and operational issues are putting upward pressure on the national average for regular unleaded. For the week, the national average jumps 13 cents to $2.44 a gallon. Oregon’s average soars 34 cents to $2.82 a gallon.

Man Missing for 25 Years, Gone Missing Again

Wendell Jeffrey Bowman, age 56 of Salem has been missing since Sunday the 8th after he went for a walk in the 4100 block of State Street, in Salem. Up until Monday Mr. Bowman had been living with his Step-Mother Darlene Bowman, at the Royal Mobile Estates off of State Street. Ms. Bowman is very concerned because Mr. Bowman is a diagnosed schizophrenic who requires medication on an ongoing basis.


Fire Destroys RV Trailer North East Salem

A fire ripped through a "ToyBox" style RV trailer just after 1:00AM in North East Salem. The trailer was parked at the curb at 2930 Dawn St NE, and appeared to still be attached to a pickup truck. None of the details are available at this time, but we will be looking into this. It does not appear at this time that anyone was hurt.

Salem Man Arrested on Sex Assault With Juvenile Female

Back on November 30, 2014, Salem Police Detectives arrested 39-year old Arthur Nigel Chavez of Salem on five counts of Rape in the Second Degree and one count of Sodomy in the First Degree. Police tell us that the charges stem from inappropriate sexual contact with a juvenile female who was known to him.


Oregon House Votes to Combat Wage Disparities

Currently, workers in Oregon can face retaliation for sharing their wage and salary rate with their coworkers, or for raising their voice about their right to a fair wage. Today, the Oregon House passed House Bill 2007, aimed at giving Oregon workers a voice to speak up about wage disparities. The bill passed 34-24.
