Salem Area Home Destroyed in 2-Alarm Fire

No Injuries Were Reported

— At 9:46 PM this evening, Marion County Fire District No. 1 (Salem, Oregon) was dispatched to a reported residential fire at 638 Lancaster Drive NE, near Durbin Avenue SE.

Upon arrival, initial crews discovered a fully involved house fire that was immediately threatening the neighbors home that was approximately 10 feet away.

The incident commander upgraded the incident to a second alarm bring additional firefighters to the scene to help suppress the fire and protect the neighboring home.

In all it took firefighters nearly an hour to extinguish the fire. Firefighters then spent the following hour conducting overhaul operations, suppressing hot spots.

The home suffered severe fire damage and has been ruled a total loss. However, firefighters were able to prevent the blaze from extending to the neighbors home.

The fire was reportedly discovered by the resident who had left earlier to go shopping, returning home to find his home on fire and called 9-1-1. Thankfully, no injuries were reported.

Lancaster Drive SE was closed for approximately 2 hours by the Marion County Sheriff's Office and Public Works Office while firefighter attacked the fire.

The cause of the fire remains unknown this evening.

Fire investigators are expected back at the fire scene tomorrow morning to continue their investigation.

MCFD1 does not plan to release any further information on this incident, pending completion of the fire cause investigation.

In total, 43 firefighters and 15 pieces of apparatus responded to the incident.
