Salem Finally Opens Overnight Warming Center

— The City of Salem has finally decided to allow 1 warming shelter to open.

The City says that the Community Action Agency will open an overnight warming center.

It will be located at the First Presbyterian Church, 770 Chemeketa St. 

It is unclear if the shelter will provide cots or bunks to sleep.

The city said that volunteers are need for 3 shifts from 7:30 pm to 7:30 am.

The city says it takes 32 people to operate this shelter for those 12 hours.

And volunteers also have to be certified by the Community Action Agency.

The warming center will be open from the 20th through the 26th.

The agency is asking for donations of many items ranging from coffee to garbage bags.
