— Late Thursday afternoon two adults and four children were displaced by a fire in their rental home.

The fire was reported to 9-1-1 dispatchers at 4:50 p.m., and the first engine crew to arrive found flames burning up the siding on the rear corner home and into the attic space.

As one group of firefighters attacked the exterior fire, another worked on venting the roof to allow access to the fire in the attic.

Firefighters had the fire extinguished within 15 minutes of their arrival.

Witnesses told investigators that three children and one adult were home at the time of the fire.

When one of the children saw flames outside near the back door, she alerted everyone inside. Everyone quickly evacuated the home and called 9-1-1.

The mother of the three children, and their four-year-old brother were not home at the time of the fire.

Hillsboro Fire Department Investigators determined the cause of the fire to be accidental in nature.

In addition to the exterior fire damage, the interior of the home suffered substantial water damage as a result of the fire in the attic.

The American Red Cross is assisting the family with temporary housing and essentials.

Eighteen personnel from Hillsboro Fire and Rescue responded to the fire. No injuries were reported.
