— Linn County Sheriff’s Deputies are continuing their investigation into a fatal motor vehicle accident Friday afternoon.

Linn County Sheriff Bruce Riley says the crash on Bell Plain Drive near Hwy 99E, was reported just after 3:00 p.m. by a passing motorist.

The driver and single occupant of a blue 2001 Buick LeSabre, was identified as 65-year-old David James Gingerich of Shedd.

The early investigation reveals that Gingerich had been traveling east on Bell Plain Drive when he lost control of his vehicle, while attempting to negotiate a 90 degree corner.

Gingerich's vehicle drove down into a 10 foot deep ravine and then rolled over onto its top. Gingerich was found behind the wheel of his vehicle, and not restrained by his seat belt, Riley said.

At this time is it not known if alcohol was a factor in the crash.
