— The Oregon House voted unanimously today to pass HCR 31, a resolution honoring the achievements of Oregon native Ashton Eaton. Ashton graduated from Mountain View High School in Bend and the University of Oregon, holds multiple world records and brought home the gold medal in the decathlon from 2012 Summer Olympics in London.

“Ashton is an amazing athlete who has brought great pride to our state and our community.” said Rep. Jason Conger (R – Bend), who sponsored and carried HCR 31. “It is not just success, but also character that makes Ashton truly worthy of honor. In a culture filled with too many scandals and fallen heroes, Oregon’s youth need positive role models. Ashton’s maturity, integrity and character make him an extraordinary athlete and an inspiration for young Oregonians.”

Eaton quickly gained notoriety in high school sports and went on to be a five-time NCAA champion at the University of Oregon. After winning gold in the decathlon at the 2012 Olympic Games, he is now widely regarded as “The World’s Greatest Athlete.”

“Ashton and his family made many sacrifices to be where he is today,” Rep. Conger explained. “Countless hours of training and hard work have put him at the top of his game, and it has paid off. We are proud of his achievements on and off the track.”
