Camas-Washougal Fire Department Firefighters Friday around noon, rescued a woman after she fell 15 feet and into the Lacamas Lake Bed in Camas.

Firefighters were called to the lake on the report of a woman who was traveling in her electric wheelchair suddenly fell from the Heritage Trail on the lake’s south shore just after noon.

The woman suffered only minor injuries, and was evacuated by firefighters to a nearby ambulance down the trail. She was then transported to a nearby hospital for evaluation.

Lacamas Lake is currently at very low water level to help facilitate it’s annual clean up. At most any other time of the year the area where the patient landed would have been under water, firefighters said.

Firefighters returned to the scene later in the day to assist in removing the 350 pound wheelchair from the lake bed for family members as there was no way to remove it without special equipment.

Firefighters constructed a wood ramp to assist in driving the heavy device back up on to the trail.
