Young Boy in Critical Condition after Falling Through Barn Floor

The 8-year-old boy had been helping a family member when the accident occurred police said.

— An 8-year-old boy is in critical condition at a Portland hospital after falling 20-25 feet through a hole in the floor of a barn style structure in rural Polk County.

The Polk County Sheriff’s Office says they were called to the accident south of Monmouth around 3:40 p.m. on Saturday.

The 8-year-old boy had been helping a family member when the accident occurred police said.

A deputy from the Polk County Sheriff's Office was the first emergency worker on scene, and assisted with CPR. Polk County Fire District #1 personnel responded and continued providing medical attention to the child.

The boy sustained critical injuries, and was transported by ambulance to a Corvallis hospital. He was then transported by air ambulance to Emmanuel Children's Hospital in Portland.
