For the last 15 years or so, ODFW (Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife) has hosted a variety of educational classes on many topics. These include hunting, fishing and other outdoor education subjects, and are usually focused on current seasonal activities. For example, two current courses coming up this month deal with waterfowl hunting. The first will be held this Sunday December 14th at the Cabela’s located in Tualatin. The course is titled Waterfowl Hunting Clinic 101, and is designed for persons who are wanting to learn about this topic, but may not have access to a friend or relative who can teach them the basics.
Lake County ranchers Don and Diana Robinson were awarded this year’s Riley Freeman Award at the Oregon Cattlemen’s Association (OCA) meeting in Bend on Dec. 6. “The Robinsons are actively involved in protecting and enhancing habitat for fish and wildlife on their land,” said ODFW Interim Director Curt Melcher when presenting the award in Bend.
Oregon State Police Bomb technicians were called to the scene of a suspicious package this afternoon at the North Mall Building, 725 Summer St. NE, in Salem. Portions of the North Mall Building were evacuated as a precaution while technicians examined the package. Workers were allowed back into the building at approximately 2:15 P.M.
"I got mixed up, I thought I left it in my car." This was the statement given to deputies by Michael Durban, age 23, of Salem after he walked into his arraignment with drug paraphernalia in his pocket. Durban was set to be arraigned on the charges of possession of heroin at the Circuit Court Annex located at 4000 Aumsville Highway SE, in Salem.
On December 3, 2014 at approximately 1:10 AM, a suspect walked into the Seven Eleven located at 1690 Market St NE and asked the clerk for a pack of cigarettes. After obtaining the cigarettes, the suspect told the clerk he had a bomb and would not be paying for them.
UPDATE: On February 26, 2015, Anthony Pena, Pablo Serrano, and juvenile David Hernandez-Fragua were sentenced in Marion County Circuit Court for their involvement in a gang related shooting spree that occurred in Salem on November 25, 2014. Two individuals were shot and injured during the spree. Anthony Pena and David Hernandez-Fragua were also sentenced for two other incidents that occurred on November 28, 2014 and December 6, 2014, respectively.
The Salem Police Department is asking for the public's assistance in locating a runaway who is believed to be endangered. Bethany Desanto, age 15, ran away from a foster home on September 19th.
A Salem Police Department Narcotics Detection Canine is missing in West Salem. The canine, Rex, escaped from his handler's residence and was last seen near West Salem High School at about 1:30 pm this afternoon. Rex is a 4-year old German Shepard, about 85 lbs and his right ear does not stand up fully.
Earl Barnes was crossing Silverton Road from the north to the south, after leaving the plaid pantry when he was hit by a vehicle driving east on Silverton Road in the number two lane.The vehicle struck Barnes with the passenger side of their vehicle. Speed does not appear to be a factor in this case. As mentioned last night, the driver of the vehicle remained at the scene and fully cooperated with the investigation.
To night about 10:00 PM a man was killed when he walked into traffic on Silverton Road in Salem. We don't know much at this time, but are in the process of following up with Marion County Sheriff’s Office.
