Accidental Fire Takes a Life

— On November 13th, 2015 at about 2:40 am the Dallas Fire Department assisted by SW Polk Fire, were dispatched to the 4000 block of Van Well Rd on a report of a structure fire.

Upon arrival they found a motor home fully engulfed in flames.

The fire department took action and later determined that there was a deceased person inside.

They called the Polk County Sheriff's Office, who responded to the scene.

Detectives from the Polk County Sheriff's Office, the Oregon State Police and the State Fire Marshall's Office have been working on this case since early this morning.

Through the investigation it was determined that 36 year old Tobias Schulson was the deceased person found inside the motor home along with his dog early this morning.

Mr. Schulson had been living in the motor home at the time.

The Oregon State Medical Examiner conducted an autopsy and it was determined the cause of death was accidental ,due to smoke inhalation.

The investigation is ongoing, but there does not appear to be any foul play involved.

Through the investigation detectives learned that there was some type of electric heater that was being used inside the motor home during the night.

According to arson investigators the heater is suspected to be the source of the fire.
