Newberg Man Arrested for Assault and Robbery

— Shortly after 11:00am Thursday officers from the Newberg-Dundee Police Department received a report of a disturbance between two men in the alley between 2nd and 3rd Street, near Howard Street in Newberg. Within moments officers were notified that one man had been injured with a knife during a fight and the other had fled the scene.

With the help of witnesses officers were able to track the suspect with the knife to an apartment located at 209 South College Street apt. 1.

This apartment is a two story apartment building roughly two blocks away.

While at the apartment officers took Chad Greene into custody.

The victim in the assault was treated on scene by the Newberg Fire Dept. for cuts on his arms and other injuries (scrapes and abrasions) sustained during the fight that occurred.

During the investigation officers learned that Chad Greene had contacted the victim about purchasing a cell phone from a craigslist ad that the victim had posted.

The two men agreed to meet in the parking lot off of East 2nd Street between Howard and College Streets.

Moments after they met Chad stole the cell phone from the victim and ran away.

As Chad Greene was fleeing he jumped a fence at a nearby daycare facility and ran toward the alley where the victim had caught up with him and the assault took place.

The daycare facility was never entered during this altercation.

Chad Raymond Greene, 20, of Newberg will be lodged at the Yamhill County Correctional Facility with a security amount of $305,000 on the following charges:

robbery in the 1st degree, assault in the 1st degree, attempted theft in the 2nd degree, trespass in the 1st degree
