— Police in Portland, Oregon had one weird Friday morning.

Just before 5:00 a.m., Portland Police East Precinct officers responded to the area of Northeast 137th Avenue and Sacramento Street, on the report of a man running up and down the street screaming about someone following him.

As officers were headed to the scene, a 9-1-1 caller reported that nobody was following the man, and it appeared to the caller that the person was either high on something or having a mental health issue.

When officers arrived and started talking with the man to assess the condition he was in, he took off. When more officers arrived to try and contain the suspect into one area, he jumped into a running police car, drove away, and nearly hit three officers.

The man later crashed into a yard at Northeast 142nd Avenue and Sacramento Street and was taken into custody.

The suspect, was identified as a 33-year-old male, and was transported to a Portland hospital for treatment to non-life-threatening injuries and a mental health assessment.

The police car, a 2009 Ford Crown Victoria, sustained serious damage. No officers were injured in this incident.

The susepct will face several charges upon his release from the hospital.
