— Gunshots rang out Monday night in the parking lot near the Salem PetsMart just off Lancaster Drive NE.

Salem News Journal was on scene as the incident took place around 9:30 p.m., and witnesses said they heard at least three shots fired.

One witness said he saw as many as seven 9mm shell casings on the ground near where the shooting occurred. He also said he saw a Honda vehicle slowly working it’s way out of the parking lot, and then speed off southbound.

Salem Police have only reported one victim with a single gunshot wound was transported to Salem Hospital, and is expected to live. Someone associated with the victim said they called 9-1-1 on the way to the hospital, and were told by dispatchers to pull over at the Fred Meyer’s at Lancaster and Market Street NE, and wait for medical personnel.

Salem Police Detectives and the Salem Police Gang Response Unit will continue the investigation Monday.
